October 21, 2011
Like most people, you’re probably tired of weight loss gimmicks. Pills, detox regimens, and juices do virtually nothing to help you lose weight. In fact, some of these products work in a way that is counterproductive to losing weight. To lose weight in a long-term, sustainable way, try natural lifestyle changes to address problem areas in your life.
When you face the need to lose weight, it’s critical to assess your appetites as well as the tradeoffs you are willing to make. What’s important to you – quantity or quality? Is quantity important in some foods but not others? What foods do you insist be high quality? The reason you should think these things through is this: if you choose a way of eating that doesn’t suit your appetites, you will find yourself hungry and/or frustrated. You will need to make some decisions about what you want to eat, and what you’re willing to forego in order to make your weight loss goals. Could you live without fried chicken if it meant you could have delicious lean grilled steak on a salad? It is essential to think through these tradeoffs so that your eating will become more mindful.
Break out of the box to lose more weight. It will be easier to accomplish your weight loss goals if you make a rule of never eating anything in the packaging it comes in. Divide snacks into healthy portion sizes when you buy them. Repackage them into sandwich bags or plastic containers.
French fries are one of the worst foods that you can put into your body if you are trying to lose weight. They are very high in fat content and generally are cooked with oil, which can increase your calorie count dramatically. Avoid French fries at all costs when attempting to shed pounds.
If you go out with your friends to bars or clubs, limit the amount of alcohol that you consume. Alcohol can increase the amount of fat in your body and also can worsen your mood the next day. This will lead to cravings that you must avoid to lose weight.
If you’re trying to lose weight, a balanced vegetarian diet may be an option for you. Some people find that a vegetarian diet forces them to make healthier choices during meal times. However, beware of consuming too many carbohydrates! Keep your pasta and bread intake moderate, otherwise you’ll miss out on the benefits of a vegetarian diet.
When dining at home, once you have served yourself, get up and wrap the remaining food, putting it away (or at least to the side) so that you’re not tempted to eat more throughout the meal. Admittedly, this is easier to do if you are a one- or two-person household. At the very least, you can keep the main food dishes off the table, perhaps on a counter in the kitchen, so that family members can get up and take seconds if they wish.
The beginning of the article talked about how difficult it can be to find reliable methods that actually help you lose weight and keep it off. Now that you know these simple tips and methods, you should be on the right path to making healthy choices and losing weight. Following this advice can help get you the body you’ve always wanted, so don’t give up!
