Something that should be done right away is a body fat measurement. Anything over 31% for a woman and 25% for a man is considered to be obese. To be fit, these levels should be about 7 percent lower. Don’t be surprised if your initial body fat measurements come back significantly higher than that, but realize that you can do something about it.
Once you have determined your body fat percentage, you can then best determine how you are going to concentrate on the fat loss. What you must realize is that you can control the amount of fat going into your body with your diet, but the fat already accumulated on your body must be lost with exercise. If not, you will find that you can also lose weight by loosing much needed muscle.
Putting together an effective exercise program will need both cardio and weight training. It may be prudent to go to both your doctor and local gym to get advice on this. While there are programs that you can do in your own home, you want to make sure that you are not getting too aggressive too soon and that you are actually doing the right exercises.
Something else to remember for this lifestyle change is that fat should not be totally cut out of the diet. The body needs some fat to exist, but it is about getting the right fats. It is estimated that about 10% of your daily intake should be from fat. Keep it at that level and you will be fine.
It is tough not to want to change your lifestyle when you start to see how unhealthy you have been living. While you do not need to go to the extreme of having a supermodels frail build, we should be in reasonable shape or we will be faced with some major difficulties later in life. If you are not happy with the image in the mirror, it just may be time to start a fat loss program to get back in shape.
